Deadline for filing SDLT return halved

Hannah Pearce, Pickering Office
 22 Jan 2019

Stamp Duty Land Tax, known as SDLT is imposed by the Government (HMRC) on the transfer of land or grant of a lease in England and Northern Ireland with a value over the threshold set by HMRC.

Currently there is a 30 day deadline for submitting the SDLT return and paying the tax due. From 1 March 2019 this will be reduced to 14 days.

HMRC consider that the reduced timeframe will improve efficiency.

If involved in a property transaction completing after 1 March 2019 please make sure the return is submitted and tax paid within the 14 day timeframe. If not, interest will be payable from the day after the deadline until the date the SDLT is actually paid.
